John Chancellor's last original oil painting, 'Hartland Overfalls' was sold, after much enthusiastic bidding, at Bonhams, New Bond Street, London on 16th September for £32,000. The painting, completed just before John's death in April 1984, was kept by his widow and had remained in the family ever since.
'Hartland Overfalls' was featured in the second book of paintings, published by David & Charles in 1989, John Chancellor's Classic Maritime Paintings, by Rita Chancellor and Austin Hawkins.
